Students Write: What Houston Means to Me - Ngan

by Ngan Nguyen

Houston is the fourth most populous city in America. This city is the most diverse city in Texas, so it can be a home to many cultural institutions and exhibits with many people. However, to me, Houston is more than that – this city plays a very important part in my life.

In my view, Houston is a new beginning to my life, where I spent my first year in America. My first impression about this city is that it has a number of malls, buildings and skyscrapers – which makes the city look amazing and modern. Coming to Houston, I have learned a lot of new things and gained a lot of experience so that I am more mature and independent.

Moreover, Houston is considered the city of art because there are several museums and galleries, such as: the museum of Fine Arts, the NASA Space Center or the Children’s Museum where I can visit and study with my friends. Whenever we have time, we often make a city trip, learning something new or just take some pictures together. The views of these destinations are really awesome, which makes us spend most of our day taking photos for ourselves.

However, what makes me love Houston is its diversity of nations, which means there are a number of people from my country living and working in this city. I can easily find and buy any food or products from my country, which can help me to overcome homesick and strange of food or living standard. In addition, whenever I have troubles, I can find help from people who speak the same language as me because I have just come to the United State and my English is still not good enough to understand all what people say to me.

In conclusion, Houston is becoming another home to me since I am used to the life and people here. This city might not be the best city in America, or the best place for living with other people, but to me, this city is more important than that. Houston is a place where I have made my beginning in America, living, studying and making friends, and then gaining success in the future.
